Wiosną 1944 roku oddziały Armii Krajowej ze zgrupowania skupionego w okolicy miasteczka Ryki pod wodzą sławnego Orlika prowadziły wiele akcji mających przekonać okupantów niemieckich, że czas ich panowania kończy się nieuchronnie. Akcja Oddziału Zagończyka nie mogła być samowolna. Wszystko starannie zaplanowano i przygotowano. Ksiądz proboszcz Grzeszko po długim wahaniu wyraził zgodę. Ruszono…
Przed świtem przednie straże starannie spenetrowały drogę marszu znad rzeki do parafialnej wsi Korytnica meldując dowódcy, że teren jest ‘czysty’.
W kościele sprawowana była poranna niedzielna msza święta. Zgnębiony naród ze ściśniętym sercem pokornie prosił Pana o koniec bandyckiej okupacji. Świeżo jeszcze w pamięci stała masakra żydowskich mieszkańców pobliskiego Żelechowa, gdy gnano ich nieludzko długą drogą do Sobolewa mordując na prawo i lewo, łącznie z kobietami z malutkimi dziećmi przy piersi. Tu i tam ciągle płonęły chłopskie domostwa w odwecie za rzekome lub faktyczne działania tych, których żandarmi określali jako ‘polnische banditen’.
Rankiem oddział dotarł w okolice kościoła. Tu dowódca zarządził błyskawiczną zmianę strojów na ‘galowe’ (w tej biedzie jeśli karabin nie był na sznurku lecz na skórzanym pasku i były jakie takie podzelowane buty to już było galowo).
Dowódca silnym głosem wydawał kolejne komendy: ‘w czwórki w prawo zwrot’, ‘na ramię broń’ i ‘naprzód marsz’. Żołnierze Podziemnego Państwa dzwoniąc żabkami zelówek ruszyli i wkroczyli energicznie do kościoła.

In spring 1944, the detachments of the underground Home Army being a part of the concentration active in the neighborhood of a little town Ryki, under command of famed Orlik, carried out a lot of actions which were aimed at convincing the Nazi German invaders that period of their rule comes inevitably to an end. The planned action of the detachment commanded by Zagonczyk (pseudonym) could never be arbitrary. Every detail has been carefully planned and prepared. The parish-priest Grzeszko gave his acceptance, not without hesitation. The underground soldiers took their move…
At dawn, the front guards carefully checked the marching route stretching from the river to a parish village Korytnica and then they reported that the area is “clean”.
In the church, the Sunday morning mass service has been continued. The oppressed people asked the God with a heavy heart for bringing an end to the bandit-like occupation . People still had in fresh memory an appalling massacre of the local Jewish community living in nearby Zelechow, when they were herded in an inhuman way and drove along a road to Sobolew, being murdered frequently on the way, including mothers and their new-born babies kept at their breasts. Here and there, the individual peasant farms were set on fire as a revenge for would-be or real activities of those who were labeled Polnische banditen by the Nazis.
In the morning, the detachment reached the direct church neighborhood. Then, commander ordered the instant change of fighters’ clothes to a “full dress” (the all-embracing poverty of that hard time meant that if the gun was hanging not on the string but on the thong or there were any shoes, preferably with the iron sole segments, then an individual was called “full dressed”).
The commander exclaimed successive commands “right turn in four”! “slope arms”! and “forward march”! The Soldiers of the Underground Army took a move clinging with the iron soles and they vigorously entered the church.
